and Education
The Wallace Global Fund supports selected projects that lie outside traditional program guidelines but which the Fund believes support and advance overall progress toward sustainable development. The Fund welcomes innovative, inter-disciplinary, and cross-cutting proposals of global significance which work to engage diverse constituencies, increase public awareness, encourage international cooperation and collaboration, and/or strengthen capacity within institutions.
Consultative Group on Biological Diversity (CGBD) - $25,000
Continued support for The Biodiversity Project, a joint funder/NGO effort to develop and disseminate the best practices in biodiversity outreach and facilitate collaboration and capacity building among NGOs, grantmakers, and other institutions working to protect and restore biodiversity.
Consultative Group on Biological Diversity (CGBD) - $5,000 over three months
Support to conduct an evaluation of The Biodiversity Project to determine: whether The Project has been successful under the goals it set for itself and for which it has been funded; the most appropriate future for The Project; and what can be learned from The Project as a model of NGO/grantmaker collaboration.
Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) - $60,000
Continued support for EDFs Member Action Network for Environmental Advocacy, with plans to upgrade the technology, making it accessible via Internet browsers so that groups of all sizes can put their membership to work on behalf of the environment.
Friends of the Earth (FoE) - $97,000
Support for an institutional strengthening program at FoE to improve internal communications and administrative capabilities, including fundraising and staff development.
League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (LCV) - $31,705
Support for LCVs annual National Advocacy Training Summit, and effort to translate the well-documented public support for conservation into action by teaching activists within the environmental movement to work "smarter" and to forge alliances across borders and disciplines.
National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) - $35, 820 over five months
Support for a review of the impact of NCRPs publication Moving a Public Policy Agenda: The Strategic Philanthropy of Conservative Foundations among selected foundations.
National Legal Aid and Defender Association (NLADA) - $70,000
Support for the development of Manual to Guide the Development of International Legal Aid and Defender Programs, a single, authoritative "best practices" manual, that will greatly reduce both the cost of developing legal aid systems, as well as the time required to do so.
Environmental Media Services (EMS) - $100,000
Core support for EMS work to improve and expand media coverage of environmental and public health issues, and to stimulate the environmental community to work more cohesively in communicating to the public.
WorldWatch Institute - $100,000
Core support for WorldWatch in its research to establish the links between the global economy and the various trends that are undermining the worlds future, such as deforestation, climate change, and population growth.
