Outreach and Education

The Wallace Global Fund supports selected projects that lie outside traditional program guidelines but which the Fund believes support and advance overall progress toward sustainable development. The Fund welcomes innovative, inter-disciplinary, and cross-cutting proposals of global significance which work to engage diverse constituencies, increase public awareness, encourage international cooperation and collaboration, and/or strengthen capacity within institutions.
   
 

African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) - $29,600 

Support for ACTS to develop a clear resource mobilization strategy, plan, and process. ACTS is a Nairobi-based non-profit with a remit to undertake policy research and related activities on the application of science and technology to sustainable development.

Global Legislators Organization for a Balanced Environment USA (Globe USA) - $65,000

Core support to Globe USA, a voluntary bipartisan association of senators and representatives from the US Congress, to carry out its core activities on international financial institutions, globalization, biodiversity, and climate change. In each  program area, Globe’s work emphasizes the importance of legislators as a source of accountability and representation.

Green Seal - $20,000

Support for Green Seal to engage the services of an organizational development consultant to assist with the implementation of a recently completed strategic business plan for the organization. In addition, support for legal services related to a potential merger between Green Seal and a Canadian firm. 

Institute for Democracy Studies (IDS) - $100,000

Support for IDS’s joint project with Feminist Majority Foundation, “Reproductive Rights Strategic Research and Education Project.”

JSI Research and Training Institute - $28,970 over four months

Support for JSI Research and Training Institute to undertake “Comprehensive Management and Administrative Systems Review” for Environmental Media Services, a non-profit media and communications firm working to bring journalists the latest and most credible information on international and domestic environmental and public health issues.

JSI Research and Training Institute - $11,610 add-on to previous grant

Additional support for JSI to undertake “Comprehensive Management and Administrative Systems Review” for Environmental Media Services, a non-profit media and communications firm working to bring journalists the latest and most credible information on international and domestic environmental and public health issues.

New America Foundation (NAF) - $250,000 per year for up to two years

Core support for New America Foundation, a non-profit public policy institute whose purpose is to bring new voices and new ideas to the fore of America's public discourse. Believing that neither side of the political divide is adequately addressing the genuine challenges and opportunities of the era, the New America Foundation seeks to reshape the public debate by investing in individuals and ideas that transcend the conventional political spectrum.

Rockefeller Family Fund - $10,000

Support for the Environmental Grantmakers Association and their work to manage and direct the Funders Network on Trade and Globalization.

Western States Center - $2,500 over two months

Support for a follow-up meeting of trade-related organizations based in the western states to take advantage of the post-Seattle momentum by re-convening diverse constituencies to discuss opportunities for deepening and pursuing joint strategies.

World Resources Institute (WRI) - $10,000

Support of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA), an initiative designed to build public awareness about the role of ecosystem goods and services in meeting health and development needs.

WorldWatch Institute - $10,000

Core support for WorldWatch in its research to establish the links between the global economy and the various trends that are undermining the world’s future, such as deforestation, climate change, and population growth.
